Geomatikk Group’s Climate Targets Approved by SBTi

The Geomatikk Group has taken a significant step in its sustainability efforts by having its targets for reducing greenhouse gas emissions approved by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi). By joining SBTi, we ensure that our efforts align with the ambitious goals of the Paris Agreement to combat climate change.

A strategic commitment
Already in 2022, the Geomatikk Group committed to setting targets in accordance with SBTi’s criteria and submitted these for validation in November of the same year. This commitment demonstrates a strong dedication to reducing the company’s climate impact and actively contributing to a sustainable future.

– Jonas Åsberg, HSSEQ Director of the Geomatikk group, says: ‘We are very pleased that our emission reduction targets are now approved by SBTi. The targets are a central part of our sustainability strategy and will guide us in our efforts to reduce our climate impact and create long-term solutions for a sustainable future.

Comprehensive emission targets
The Geomatikk group is committed to reducing its greenhouse gas emissions and has defined goals in the following areas:

  • Scope 1: These are direct emissions from sources owned or controlled by the company. The goal is to reduce absolute emissions by 54.6% by 2033, with 2023 as the base year.
  • Scope 2: These are indirect emissions from the production of the electricity, heat, and cooling that the company purchases and uses. The goal is to increase the purchase of renewable electricity from 27% in 2023 to 100% by 2030.
  • Scope 3: These are all other indirect emissions that occur in the company’s value chain, including emissions from suppliers and customers’ use of the company’s products. Geomatikk will actively work to reduce absolute emissions, focusing on the entire value chain.

Sustainability permeates the business
The core business is to secure societies undisrupted access to critical infrastructure. To achieve this, our mission is to provide sustainable, efficient, and secure software and services to manage and protect critical infrastructure. Sustainability work is an integral part of the company’s strategy and structures efforts to reduce environmental impact, ensuring a sustainable future for coming generations.

About the science based targets initiative (SBTi)
The Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) is a global initiative that helps companies set scientific targets to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Their experts evaluate and validate the targets submitted by companies to ensure they are scientific and ambitious enough to meet the 1.5°C goal of the Paris Agreement. SBTi also provides technical support and resources to the companies that join.

The initiative is a collaboration between the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP), the UN Global Compact, and the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF). You can read more here: sciencebasedtargets.org

About the Paris Agreement
The Paris Agreement was adopted by the world’s countries in 2015 and aims to limit global warming by reducing greenhouse gas emissions. The goal of the Paris Agreement is to keep global warming well below 2°C above pre-industrial levels and to limit it to 1.5°C.
